Kennel Attendant
(Harbor Springs)

Part time and/or full time positions available. Must be flexible, well organized and possess a positive attitude, team player. Previous animal care a plus, but will train the right person. There is a lot of cleaning involved in the job and it is a fast paced environment. Must be available weekends, holidays and have reliable transportation.

Job Information

Paws & Claws Boarding & Bath hires kennel attendants who can be trained to do all aspects of pet care at our facility in Harbor Springs, including cleaning, exercising, feeding/medicating etc.

Hours

Most weekends and holidays are required / hours are 7:45-5:30 Weekdays and 7:45-5 on weekends. (Sometimes, may have to stay a little while longer). Holidays are typically a 3-hour shift. We try to keep it to 4 days per week (sometimes more during busy season).

Demands of the Job

  • Handling and Moving Dogs and Equipment — Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
  • Inspecting Equipment, Structures, or Material — Inspecting equipment or materials to identify any areas that are in need of, or soon will be in need of, repairs, and communicating those possible repairs needed to your supervisor for required action.
  • Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work — Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Performing General Physical Activities — Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as holding high-pressure washer cleaning equipment, maintaining balance in active dog playgrounds (dogs range in size from 2-lbs to over 100-lbs), walking and standing for hours at a time, stooping to clean kennel floors, lifting heavy playground equipment when cleaning and handling up to 50-lb bag of dog food.
  • Safety Sensitivity, Identifying and Solving Problems— The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. Analyze and assess dog playgroups identifying potential dog situations by categorizing, anticipating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting safety changes in dog playgroup dynamics. Use your safety dog training (provided by Happy Pets) to prevent or diffuse dog arousal, which can lead to aggression.

Role and Responsibilities

Pet Care Specialists have a genuine kindness, love, and natural respect for animals. Responsibilities include continuous safety, consistent cleaning, and social interaction play time and affection with dogs and cats.

Essential Job Functions

  • Observe behavior of dogs to ensure good play skills and calming signals are being used. Maintain eventempered and friendly dog playground atmosphere.
  • Petting and affection to multiple dogs ranging from 2-lbs to over 100-lbs at all activity levels (high or lowenergy) and be comfortable standing up to 100% of shift worked walking in and around the dogs.
  • Feed and water dogs and cats according to schedules and feeding instructions.
  • Wash pet dishes thoroughly, do laundry and clean, organize, maintain, and disinfect dog wash area, and dog or cat kennels, playgrounds, and equipment.
  • Completely clean up and properly dispose of pet waste frequently
